PROJECT 4 : BROCHURE PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
The objective of this project was to create a brochure/CD cover in relation to the past project which consisted in creating a poster for a cause. The challenge here was linking the 2 projects in some way and to create a visual composition for a CD that made use of several elements and principles of design (and to combine imagery with type in an effective way) while at the same time conveying a message related to the cause. Since my poster was for a benefit concert including several performers, I decided I would do a CD cover for a mix-tape promoting and showcasing the artists that would appear at the event.

CONCEPTUALIZATION & RESEARCH
I started by looking at different album covers and I wanted there to be some continuity between the front and back of the brochure but also contrast so what I started by doing is drawing thumbnails of a made up album for ATCQ with their iconic 2 colors in order to figure out the best way to incorporate text with imagery with the idea of duality behind it.I then did a ruff of what I wanted my album cover to look like on Adobe Illustrator (see image below)
PRODUCTION
What I started by doing is taking an snowy image and rendering on Photoshop half with a cool filter and the other half with a warm filter to create contrast .
Afterwards, I used Adobe Illustrator to trace the tree and made sure the branches had a sense of movement and I made sure the lettering for the title of the CD “Cruel Winter” was subtly written with the branches of the frosty tree.
On the other half of the tree which is burning I wanted to create contrast as well with the fire and the tracks so I used black and yellow to form a higher contrast.I added texture to the tree as well with the thin lines and finally I proceeded to add elements such as the record labels, the bar code and the parental advisory warning for a more authentic feel for the CD.
FINAL DESIGN
Upon seeing the final design,I feel I was most successful at creating contrast in several aspects such as the lettering, the cool-warm sides of the CD and also the contrast between the flat graphic design of the tree as opposed to the background which is a real photograph. However,if I were to change something,I would have tried to make the branches slightly more robust to make the letter-branches slightly clearer and make the tree a bit less cartoon-ish.
