The Fan Fan Lab

Fan Fan Lab
Fan Fan Lab uses the already existing World net of FabLabs (FablabFoundation) in order to develop quick, local and quality solutions for any catastrophe.
This is already a reality; designers are now giving freely their designs in open source in order to build a better society.
It does not matter to be far, because we are all connected.
So, why are not we going to use all this for Emergency Cases?
But, what is a Fab Lab? & how Does it works?
Currently Fab Labs include a laser cutter, a sign cutter, a high-resolution CNC, a large wood router, and a suite of electronic components and programming tools for low-cost, high-speed microcontrollers for on-site rapid circuit prototyping.
To be a Fab Lab means connecting to a global community of learners, educators, technologists, researchers, makers and innovators- -a knowledge sharing network that spans 30 countries and 24 time zones.

THE INTERNATIONAL CONNECTION
Blue lines means Fab Lab interactions: institutions all around the World work together online in order to submit their ideas, different point of view, mechanisms...
Red lines means Design Delivery: Design Teams have been working in the emergency proposal for a while, and finally, they got a common project, which, of course, has been followed by local people.
Then, the nearest Fab Lab to the catastrophe area receives the CAD files which will be Digital Build.
· Studio Case - Fukushima, Japan ·
In this Studio Case, we suppose an emergency in Fukushima. So the Fab Research Yokohama (Keio University) or the FabLab Shibuya (both from Tokio), could be the responsible FabLab for the Fabrication.

Modulation.
Since we do not know what we are going to find or where the school will be build, the proposal tries to be as flexible as possible. Three modules has been designed in order to solve the three Basic Needs: Education Health & Leisure. So, A-Module was thought as classroom, the B-Module and the C-Module cover the Health needs (Canteen and Toilets) and the D-Module gives a space related to the central garden, focusing on the Leisure.
PROPOSALS
Proposal I - Circulation
I = 2xA + 1xC + 1xD
In this case, the project was developed in order to allow the free circulation. This way, the seed will consolidate faster in the urban surroundings.
Proposal II - Protection
II = 1xA + 1xB + 1xC + 2xD
Opposite to the first proposal, this design takes care of the privacy. The School is close by itself, creating a internal garden where the kids forget about the outside.
Proposal III - Standard
III = 2xA + 1xB + 1xC + 1xD
The selected proposal looks for the balance between the surroundings and the interiors. With two School modules, this case can solve properly the requirements established.
PROPOSAL
STRUCTURAL ORDER
The ribs are the first structural level. They are attached one to each other by the wooden beams which are also produced by Digital Fabrication (Finsa Panels). Finally, the facade and roof are made with Finsa superPan Tech P5
The module.
The module answers to the radial shape. Two structural ribs part from the inner part until the outer. We need five Wood Panels - superPan Tech P5, that we will fill with the rib pieces and some other pieces for the furniture.
Panel Configuration.
Since the pieces have to be produce in a FabLab, we have to control what we can build in there. We consider the CNC as the most relevant tool we can use. Here we have the Configuration of one panel ready to cut.
