Self Reflection Graphics II
I feel like I have progressed in my ability to depict, draw and render space throughout this course. I began the semester feeling as if I was incapable of drawing without a straight edge, and I didn’t particularly know how to draw the space physically before me. I struggled on the sketchbook the most this semester. It was a constant battle for me, but it did get easier the more I sketched in it. I had to learn what details were important and what were not. I felt most comfortable in this course when we started rendering with color. I thoroughly enjoyed coloring in the color wheels and cubes and learning how to work with the Prismacolor markers. To me, adding color to a sketch or drawing brings it to life. Personally, I prefer working with markers more than watercolor because I feel like I have more control when working with the markers. This course has definitely stretched my abilities and made me grow as an artist. It makes you think with a designer’s brain but depicts the design as an artist would. I think the best way for me to grow from this class is to continually and regularly sketch and draw out spaces - even if it is taking a sketchbook outside and sketching things around me for 20 minutes. It doesn’t take extreme skill to render, sketch or draw, but it takes practice. Each time gets easier if you persistently work at it.
