The Warlock of the Firetop Mountain was the first of its kind among gamebooks. This groundbreaking fantasy story celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, so I decided to commemorate the occasion with a slick redesign!
During my work, I focused on making this great adventure more understandable and accessible, while also shaping a uniquely likeable appearance for the book. All throughout the redesigning process, I put high emphasis on supporting the core experience and helping the players through design elements. The main goal was to make a better impression with the help of precise and conscious design in this special type of publication.
Originally a fun side project of mine to tinker with when I was not working on my BA degree at the University of West Hungary, in 2017.

The book contains 39 illustrated possible enemy encounters. All of them are hand-drawn, along with various helpful items you may acquire inside the labyrinth.
Three brand new elements have been added to the book. My goal was to help the players with various design elements through the game experience.
No.01: "dice"
Did you forget your dice? This book contains random dice positions in the upper left corner, so you can easily imitate a roll if you spin the pages. Watch out! Don't cheat!
No.02: removable character sheets
Every adventurer needs to keep his or her backpack and stats sorted. To help you with it, you can find your adventure sheet at the end of the book.
No.03: blank map
In the labyrinth, you can easily lose your way. To help you remember your path so far, you can draw it onto the blank map inside the protective cover.
