Ale is a personal project and it was a spur-of-the-moment kind of piece, but initially I was aiming to draw a scene around a huge tree. At first it was just the smallest character with a beer, but once I had the bulk of the tree in there, the rest evolved and fell into place and it became a comic cover or animated film poster. To me it definitely has a retro vibe and the bright colours put me in mind of old comics and cartoons like Asterix and Looney Tunes.
A good franchise needs a bold logo so I came up with this on-the-fly.
Over time I have produced different "issue" covers that introduce a new character and further illustrate this mysterious and magical fantasy world:
