Flag Project
A porttrait of the American flag in Maryland
I grew up around the American flag; my grandma was born on the fourth of July but kept us singing "You're a Grand Old Flag" year-round. On Independence Day, my mom was up at 6 a.m. to save us the best spot for the parade. On September 11, 2001, I was 10 year old and in fourth grade when kids began leaving school early. I was picked up during lunch time and did not find out what had happened until I came home. I don't think I understood what had happened until much later.

Growing up in a "Post-9/11" world, the flag is everywhere and its meanings diverse. I wanted to understand, "What does the flag mean to you, and why do you display it?"
