Often times the American Flag is viewed as a symbol of protection, safety and glory. In making this piece, I wanted to speak to the fallacies of placing these kinds of heavy values on a symbol. Any flag is only as strong as the country behind it. Too often we forget the words of John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what your county can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." We believe, sometimes with blind patriotism, the United States is and always will be the best country in the world, yet we often do little in our own lives to make that possible. I made this flag as a response to that sort of blind patriotism and to speak to the problem of putting too much into a symbol and not enough into what it actually represents.
