The ruler is significant as a symbol of discipline, and it can also be a musical instrument. Playing on the varying definitions of the word ‘ruler’, “A Ruler for the Ruler” is a series of outcomes that encourage the performance of the national anthem in unison in a classroom, using a ruler as an instrument. The ruler itself features a patriotic design.
As well as playing the music, there is an opportunity to fill in the lyrics. This part of the design comments on the fact that not too many in the younger generations even know all the words to the national anthem. Secondly, it can act as an anti monarchist tool to subvert the celebratory song.
