Ocular migraines are temporary visual distortions that can develop with or without the accompanying pain of a classic migraine. Reports of migraine auras range from seeing colors and patterns, psychedelic images or in my case, blind spots.

Throughout art history, decorative patterns have always been present. Such geometry is common in visual migraines. Neurologist Oliver Sacks has proposed that the early art found in many cultures has been influenced by migraine imagery. He states, There seems to have been, throughout human history, a need to externalize, to make art from, these internal experiences, from the decorative motifs of prehistoric cave paintings to the psychedelic art of the 1960s.”

In this piece I explore my own relationship with migraine disturbances and art.
