Frida and Diego - fiber dolls

Frida and Diego
Fiber dolls
These dolls were created in 2009 and were my first attempt to make something from felt and yarn. I've been always fond of Frida Kahlo's paintings, and Diego's murals. Being inspired by their art, I tried to express my vision by imitating the famous painting "Frida and Diego Rivera", which shows the artists on their wedding day.

The figures are made on a wire base, their heads and hands needle-felted, the clothes knitted.

On their backs, there is a small wire loop, which allows to hang them on a wall.

First version of Diego's boots was made of clay and covered with varnish. It was not sturdy enough, though, and by the time, I had to replace the boots by another pair, all needle-felted.
