For this brief I was asked to choose 1 of the 3 penguin books. I decided to do To Kill a Mockingbird. I began my research by looking into the background of the book and the characters. 

When I started the project I looked on Pinterest to see previous book covers. I noticed that some were bold and colourful whilst others were quite dull and boring. 

For my first idea I decided to keep it simple and have a black background with a white noose and a red mockingbird. This was my best design as I feel like it really stands out. 

My second idea for the book cover was also simple. I went onto google and searched for a coffee stain and selected the colour of it with the switcher tool on Illustrator to create the background. I drew a mockingbird with the pen tool and then selected text out the book and used a clipping mask. I like this one, however, I feel like its not as strong as the other design.

This is my third idea for my book cover. I chose a pink colour for the background as I feel like it compliments the gun. I chose a gun because Tom Robinson was shot whilst trying to escape prison. The mockingbird on the gun represents him. I like this design but its not the best.
