Appropriation doesn’t always have to be a bad thing, in fact originality  is sometimes overrated. Andrew Fairclough worked that out early. Often designing with a restricted colour palette, Fairclough’s work seeks to hint at the nostalgia and tactility of found art, whilst being something completely new. Sourcing heavily from mid-century spot illustrations, vintage sci-fi comics, surrealism and textures— degraded print has become Fairclough's signature, especially the qualities seen from mid-90’s photocopiers and half-tones. After completing a business degree, Fairclough got inspired and is now a fully fledged creative. A Sydney-based designer, he began his career designing the graphics on skateboards and snowboards. Now, he is a fully fledged art director, designer and illustrator, he is the brains and skill behind the True Grit texture kits and runs Kindered Studios, collaborating and working across the globe. Hear him explain how to make your mark on an industry that’s fast paced and constantly evolving, by creating something new from what’s already been done.
