MOVIE/SERIES TITLE SEQUENCE

The Brief
We were tasked to select a title from a list of movies and produce an alternate title sequence (including visuals) for the introduction to the movie. Producing a spellbinding, entertaining concept for a title sequence and to deliver a well-crafted nine-form storyboard to communicate the idea. Selecting a sound track for the intro sequence to accompany our imagery was also required. I chose, "Oblivion".

The Solution
Movie titles set the scene without giving away too much. They inform the viewer of the intention of the movie and can create a very distinctive mood and feeling for the beginning of the story. When accompanied with the right soundtrack the movie titles are works of art in their own right. Using Photoshop, i created 3 sets of completely brand new images to suit the style and mood of the film.. Considering that the titles will be moving, I selected type that integrates well with my visuals and a stylistic approach that helps convey a sense of the overall tone of the picture. The frames are in threes and I used each set of three to describe a sequence of transitions across a short period. I chose images and type that work well together to convey the mood of the picture. Focusing on one kind of theme - paranoia, suspense, secrecy and mystery.

We open on a scene of clear clouds, reflecting the sunlight. as the camera slowly glides through them.
Title: ‘Universal Pictures Presents”, appears in the centre of the screen. The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling themself back together again.
The song “Arn Andersson - Annihilation” begins and plays throughout.

The camera continues to glide and descend through the clouds.
As the camera pans down, the clouds start losing their brightness, becoming darker.
Title “Directed By” appears just above the centre on the left side. The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling themself back together again.

The clouds have engulfed the entire camera view except for a small hole in the middle where sunlight continues to shine through.
The title “Produced By” appears just above the centre on the right side. The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling themself back together again.
The camera pans through the high clouds, slowly descending into a darker atmosphere where ash from the land below have an eerily calm swirl.
Title “Executive Producers” appears in the top left corner. The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling them self back together again.
A part of the Statue of Liberty’s torch has been revealed through one of the dark clouds.
Title “Director of Photography” appears in the top right corner. The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling themself back together again.
The Statue of Liberty’s torch reveal is synced with the climax of the song.
As the camera pans down through the dark thick mist, the Statue of Liberty’s body is revealed along with her head broken and missing.
Title “Tom Cruise” appears in the centre on the right side of the screen. The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling themself back together again.
The camera zooms out as it pans down from behind the Statue of Liberty, clearly revealing her broken and destroyed body.
Title “ Morgan Freeman” appears in the centre at the bottom of the screen. The words starting off in pieces, puzzling themself back together again.
As the dark thick mist subsides just for a little bit. We are given the chance to see the remnants of what used to be New York in the distance. Buildings have been broken and destroyed. Ash and flora cover what is left of this once beautiful city.
Title “Olga Kurylenko” appears in the centre at the bottom of the screen. The words starting off in pieces, puzzling themself back together again.
The camera cuts to the Statue of Liberty’s head in-between buildings in the now desolate and empty streets of New York.
There is an eerie stillness in the streets as the dark mist consumes all in its path. Buildings are barely visible and thick ash covers the ground.
Title “Oblivion” appears just below the centre of the screen The words starting off in pieces, slowly puzzling themself back together again.
The climatic part ends in the song. Starting soft again.
