Munch Contest - The 5th Scream

Edvard Munch painted four versions of "The Scream". Now it’s my turn to create the 5th version using his digitally recreated brushes.

This is my entry of the Edvard Munch Contest by Adobe and the Munch Museum in Oslo. The brushes are original recreated of Edvard Munch’s own brushes, made by Kyle T. Webster (you should really get his brushes). For my painting I used all of them, but mostly the Filbert Brush. I also tried the mixer brushes for the first time.

For me Edvard Munch’s Scream represents fear. The original painting illustrates how the sky turns blood red, how a scream passes through and how the friends keep on walking. I spent the first weeks sketching and thinking about how I can use my skills to make my version of the Scream. Originally I wanted to keep the people in the back (the friends?), but during the process I felt that the loneliness was the key aspect to include, not necessarily the actual people. So how could communicate that feeling?

I spend the first weeks thinking about fear. What is fear for me? When do I feel fear and how do I react to it? To be honest, the time we live in is unfortunately pretty scary. As a woman I feel fear just walking home alone in the evening.

In my version of the Scream you can only see one person. This person is feeling the fear, the scream.
Hope you enjoy my version. I really enjoyed making it and seeing all other participants versions of the Scream!
