before she sings (2017)
This project was part of module taken at the RMIT undergraduate Communication Design programme.

The project basis was to explore book design of a more technical subject, like building guitars in this case. The aim was
to better manage the information as well as give it a visual identity while still maintaining the integrity of the technical craft.

The concept was one of birth, as an instrument is made, hence the title “before she sings”. It follows the process that an instrument like the guitar has to go through before “singing” its first notes. The main image that supports the title is actually
a front profile of just the guitar sides without the top and back, reflecting a more revealing state as we explore the inner workings of the guitar. Beyond just representing a guitar outline and the technical blueprints of sorts, the image resembles
a baby’s bug toothed mouth opened widely, which ties back to how a child first cries at birth or speaks his or her first words.

The end result was a book designed to be part of a mock workshop teaching to build guitars along with posters to complement and promote the workshop.
