Hello everyone!
Since June`12 i`ve been hired to make some rough storyboards for a major tv channel in Brazil called TV CULTURA / TVRATIMBUM! for two animated series. TV RATIMBUM! is a tv channel totally devoted to kids and its a blast to be part of it. So as the work went on the rough storyboards evolved to ANIMATICS which guide the animators on creating the final 3d piece following an aproved script.
Traçando Art (Tracing Art) is an animated 3D series which tells the story of two little book louses that lives in a Museum. There in their little home, they face day by day situations which teach kids about all the famous Art Masters like Michelangelo, Da Vinci and many others in a fun and exiting way!
Tracio and Jean, two fun and charismatic 3d characters created by Caca Amadei and modeled by Cleber Marchetti....To bring them to life i used key poses that where provided by the artist. These style guides help me a lot on the creation of the many situations that this duo live on each episode.
The process start on checking the episode script. After reading it i figure out camera shots, scenery and props. Them get my trusty Wacom5 and dive into hours of fun!
In the process of making the Animatic i get on the part which Jean teach Tracio about the famous Masters and their creations. This involves researching references, pictures and text on the web or books so i can use it on the final animatic.
The program i use to create the Animatics come from the famous and awesome ToonBoom® company. Storyboard Pro 3D have lots of awesome functions to really speed and bring the best possible workflow when creating Animatics and Storyboards. I can bring the final draft scrip and all the key characters pose inside the app making everything centered and ready to go!
Now the fun starts! The Animatic runs for about 4:30 ~ 5:00 minutes long, so i need to draw over 80 diferent drawings. Hence i can re use some of the characters bodies and just draw new expressions and arms positions. It`s a lot of fun :) ! Also the TV provide me with audio files that help sync the characters action with the drawing making it spot on for the animators to work on the final piece!
And this is the final aproved Animatic, that goes to the animators for the final online cartoon!
