Vernacular Design - Street Signage & Billboard
"Academic Project"
By observing the visual language of a street in "Beirut suburbs" named "Al-Radouf", it was determined that the predominant language was the vernacular one. So, by inspiring from dynamics of the street and the visual language it provides, and by choosing one of the topics it displays, street signage and billboards were designed to criticize the social problems discussed. Three problems were chosen: throwing garbage in inappropriate places, anarchic energy strips, parking cars in unsuitable places.
By using the technique used by the residents of "Al-Radouf" which is expressing thoughts and problems by spraying on walls using colloquial dialect, the following signage and billboards were designed.
