While living in Florence, Italy, I created this series of works based on my experience in explorations. Florence has a long, deep history that has many overlapping factors. I have been most attracted to the morbidity found everywhere there— people buried in church walls, martyrs depicted in frescoes, gruesome battles cast in bronze— and the odd, subtle humor that those gruesome scenes occasionally carry.

Since I work in a slow manner, gluing individual threads down one at a time, I am given time to reflect, learn, and respond to the art and the history I have witnessed during my few short months in Florence and surrounding areas.
