Two words: Space Catan.

In this table top spinoff, I have to come up with a bunch of illustrations to adorn every part of this game. The only restriction I had was to not include any form of characters, because the whole experience revolves around how the players themselves can invent their own tribes. Not subscribing to a certain alien look definitely helps with breaking away from classic alien stereotypes. Another thing that the client wanted was to have the illustrations to be kept painterly and not too polished.

It wasn’t hard to come up with the different components as the whole game was inspired by the various celestial bodies. I think I learned a lot of constellations in this way.

Overall, I think it is hilarious that somehow artsy and techno can coexist pretty well in this little tabletop game. Special thanks to Matthew Matheney for recruiting me to breathe life into his passion project.
These are some of the preliminary drawings I first have to do, which turned out to be something very different in the end. Putting all these little pieces together is a whole other adventure of its own. I'm simply glad I had zero accidents with the X-acto knife throughout the whole process; I'll be quick to admit that I did most of my cutting with the Logan mat cutter.
