Mechanized Scroll, V1
2017
Installation view of "Roll 1" from the exhibition Reboot at Kike Keller in Madrid, Spain, 2017. 30 cm x 7.5 meter scroll drawing in charcoal and ink on paper controlled by Arduino. LEDs and photo-optic sensors.
Installation, exhibition "Reboot" at Kike Keller in Madrid, Spain, 2017.
Trials and tribulations with coding and mechanics in the studio.
Details of the 7.5 meter drawing. The viewer can control where they want to view with a joystick that controls variable speed D.C. motors, all controlled by Arduino.
Initial phases on mounting the project. Rice paper was considered for a moment, but even though it was beautiful it was too risky as it is so fragile. The original idea of using a heavy cotton based paper was thought best.
Early stages of the 7.5 meter drawing, charcoal and ink.
Wiring the circuit for the inclusion of LEDs.
In the studio, wires mounted, Arduino Uno and Rev 3 motor shield. The Joystick controls the two motors moving the 7.5 meter scroll as well as the LED strip.
The various 3D printed components used for the spools and mounts.

Below a video of the pieces being printed and the drawings.
