DESIGN CONCEPT
Based on the integration of Architecture and the Acoustic Phenomena, this project explores the relationship between two art forms through the phenomenon of layering. The challenge is to combine spatial and harmonic changes that occur as other layers are added.
DESIGN INTENT
The client of the infill house is a classical musician, who cycles as a hobby. The house is an environment of calm and concentration for a professional who spends long periods traveling on tours. The house is to be centred around the design of a welcoming and inspiring music room, where the client will spend most of their time working / teaching / perfecting their art. The room is designed according to acoustic principles but not to the extent that it becomes uncomfortable for inhabitation - it is not a concert hall. Cycling is incorporated in the infill house via. the bike parking area at the entrance. Like the musical instrument, the bicycle is also a tool. The musical instrument is capable of empowering emotions whereas the bicycle is largely concerned with the exterior physique. Thus one could be said to be internal expression and the other exterior.
