How-to Video

Wrote, produced, and edited a two-minute how-to video for an online Point of Sale System (Imonggo). This filled a gap in the company's documentation and made a complex task easy to understand and execute.

I wrote JavaScript to automatically remove or anonymize company information from webpages shown in screen captures (a test server was not available). This saved video editing time by reducing the need to mask information on screen.

Target audience: manager and administrators for retail operations
Tools used: Camtasia, JavaScript

Shot 1: Introduction
0:00 – 0:11

Imonggo is a web-based Point of Sale system.
In this video, we’ll show you how to adjust stock quantities in bulk.
One case where you might want to do this is zeroing out stock before doing a
complete inventory.

Shot 2: Download Current Inventory as CSV
0:11 – 0:25

First, we’ll download our current inventory as CSV files.
Click on Stockroom, then Inventories.
Click Download, then Download again.

Shot 3: Open CSV Files and Modify Quantities
0:25 – 1:02

Next, we’ll open the CSV file and modify quantities.
First, we’ll delete all columns other than stock number and quantity.
Now you can modify the quantities individually,
or to set an entire column to the same value:
Change the first two values, hold shift and click to select them, then double-click
the lower right corner.
Now, save the modified file. You may get a warning about the format.
Click Continue or OK.

Shot 4: Upload Modified Files
1:02 – 1:35

Next, we’ll upload modified files to Imonggo.
Click Office, Control Center and Upload Tool.
Click on Stock Count and choose a branch if necessary.
Choose the modified file, then click Upload.
Review the warning, then click OK.
Wait for the upload to complete. If it’s successful, you’ll get a confirmation message
with the number of records processed.

Shot 5: Validate Data
1:35 – 1:54

Finally, let’s validate that our quantities were updated.
Click on Stockroom, then search for one of the products you modified.
Our quantities were correctly changed from 0 to 1.
You can also click on Transactions and look at the most recent one to see all the
changes.

Shot 6: Conclusion
1:54 – 1:58

That’s all there is to it! Thanks for watching.
