GRAZER robotic lawnmower Junior ID project ASU

"Grazer" logo animation created in AfterEffects®.
Inspired by the blood, sweat, and tears that are shed mowing the lawn on a hot summer's day, "Grazer" is an automated robotic system that continuously cuts the grass and mulches your pasture. They say, "time is money" and time-saving robots like this may soon be the smartest lawn-care investment a homeowner can make. "Grazer" truly lives up to its name-increasing the average amount of time spent caring for a normal-sized lawn by over 1,600% ...resulting in a pristine, carpet-like appearance - even during the Fall!

"Safe-Blade" system
Equipped with SIX 2-inch, ultra-lightweight blades that rotate freely on their own independent axis ...this may be the gentlest lawn-mowing product ever imagined. When both sets of 3 blades are rotating at full-speed, the blades extend out to their "cutting" position by centrifugal force. But because they are so light - there is not enough momentum behind the blades themselves to damage anything more dense than a bag of leaves. Meaning there is little threat to you, your children, your pets, those stubborn sprinkler heads, or any items that may be lying in your lawn.

After piecing together a functional replica of my safety-blade design, I secured it within my FoamCore model, drilling a hole just above its' main axis, so that the observer could spin the motor by hand. To achieve the required 1:1 scale, I built only the right hemisphere of my product and positioned it against a one-way mirror - this enabled the full body of my product to be seen in the reflection of the mirror, and it allowed the observer to see how the safety-blades worked: spinning outward, making contact with the one-way mirror, and rebounding freely upon their own axis, before returning to the extended "cutting" position.
