This project is a sarcastic, visual commentary on the state of America today. It features deceivingly appealing packaging for cupcakes, placed in juxtaposition with the ingredients of the cupcakes in the form of a baker's workspace. The ingredients that make up the "perfect," little, American cupcake, such as flour, are identified as "greed," - butter as "bigotry" and salt as "hate." Fresh out of the oven – a perfect little American cupcake. Don’t let your sweet tooth get the best of you . . . think twice, and please do not eat the cake.
For this assignment, we were asked to create a persona and design to push our skills in areas we were unfamiliar with or uncomfortable in. My final persona idea was a “Revolutionist Baker.” Working with only black-and-white typography, as well as making miniature “sculptures,” was a challenge for me. After lots of material testing, trials and errors, the final cupcakes were produced with salt dough, found objects, spray paint and latex acrylic caulk.
