Fixed Wireless (used for delivering fixed internet broadband connection) is a microwave-based technology that transmits voice and data between two fixed microwave dishes. One microwave dish is on the sender’s end and another on the receiver’s end.  Voice and data being transmitted reach these fixed terminals (similar to a cell phone tower), offering mission critical internet access.

Two Types of Fixed Wireless System:

Fixed wireless technology makes use of transmission towers or ground stations that are interloped and also linked to customer’s location. The installed equipment on these towers communicates with wireless ground stations. Communicating only with ground stations, fixed wireless broadband doesn’t communicate in outer space like satellite internets do.

Efficient: Doesn’t require messy cable to be placed in an area for providing internet access.

Cons:

No Mobility: As indicated in the name, fixed wireless internet access can be availed in a fixed physical space and is not mobile.

Geographical Limitations: Due to its line-of-sight connectivity requirement, fixed wireless broadband is useless near hilly areas and forest locales.

Pricier: May cost more per Mbps as compared to other kinds of broadband service.
