Story of Speed - Clay Model

As part of my internship at General Motors Design Australia as a clay sculptor, interns were provided with the opportunity to create a 1:3 scale clay model to develop and refine an independent speed form concept. This model was hand sculpted in Marsclay medium clay, with the finished concept dressed in Dinoc. This gave an in depth learning experience into tool making, design, proportion, surfacing and an introduction to highlighting.

My passion for making handmade ceramics gave me the understanding of form, basic surface and hand skills. With some of the movements transferable to automotive sculpting, automotive is a much more strict on the construction of surfaces. In similarity it’s all about orchestrating a relationship with lines and surfaces, to create an interplay of feeling.
