Im Print Impress
A brief set by GF Smith, Foilco & Baddeley Brothers, to ‘celebrate print’ in 2018. The earliest paper was papyrus, made from reeds by the ancient Egyptians. I was inspired by the plant, so I made patterns from my own illustrations and experimented with the heat press and laminator to foil my prints.
I knew from the beginning I wanted to incorporate elements of nature into my design, so I started experimenting with earthy coloured foils, in the end, I chose copper. After researching the paper type I came across a page about the papermaking process, how the Egyptians used the papyrus plant to make paper. The process has developed over the years, but it hasn’t changed much
