The Science of Design Booklet

Cover for design thesis – The Science of Design: The Creative Process of Cahan and Associates

Attempting to invoke the idea of a bohr model as well as a simple geometric pattern
IFC + Table of contents spread. Repeating the duodecagon imagery from the cover.
Intro spread. Drawing on Bill Cahan's past life as an architect for the graphics here.
Again, more architectural graphics. Intentional grid-breaking in a couple of spots because, you know, deconstruction.
This project involved a lot of independent research. I wanted to emulate the design process of Cahan and Associates as closely as possible for the creation of this project. That meant I had to research and write the copy myself, as well as come up with a cohesive message for the book. My attempted message: Design is both right-brained and left-brained. It takes both analytics and creativity to do well. Heavily influenced by science brochures from the 50s, hence the single-color palette and duotone image treatment everywhere. Rockwell and Futura play well together, I think. Geometric sans-serif + Geometric slab serif.
