Ficet was my official entry into GE appliance's DrinkSink Challenge which ended up as my side project. Ficet is an ice dispensing faucet which co-exists with your regular water faucet. The ice making is similar to portable ice maker we get everywhere.
The Design
Ficet mainly consists of three parts above the counter. The glass spout is at the top which has a 1.5 inch square opening for ice cubes. It is attached to chrome plated brass stem via a polished steel sliding connecter.
The Working
Under the sink, Ficet is connected to ice making unit, ice storage unit and a suction pump. Ice maker can make around 20 ice cubes, storage unit can store twice and suction pump can send ice cubes as many as required. Ficet needs connected to be drinking water supply and power supply.
The Interface
The front side of stem is installed with 2 inch by 1.5 inch LED screen. You can tell ficet to prepare ice through the touch menu. A batch of 20 ice cubes takes about 7 minutes. You can select shape of ice cube and see the countdown timer as ice is being prepared.
The Process
The process consisted of moodboard, ideation sketches and sketch renderings and research on existing portable ice makers. 3D modelling and rendering of Ficet has been done in Autodesk Fusion 360.
