MOM to BE application design

At the first semester of MOME Interaction Design course, we collaborated with GE Healthcare Hungary. They introduced us the course themes, working on solutions, which facilitate the lifes of different patients. The mission of our team was to design a mobile application, which helps mom-to-bes.

The focus of our research were the following issues: How do prospective mothers live new situations, mental and physical changes? Which tools can make pregnancy balanced and healthy?

To emphatise with our soon to be users, we’ve conducted interviews, and found out that the main need of mothers is to reduce the stress caused by the changed life situation and the excessive amount of information.

The problem area was mapped within an intensive, multi-day workshop, where we applied different UX methods (e.g. affinity diagram, empathy and journey map, personas, design principles, prototype on paper) to create the concept. Based on the filtered information, we created 3 personas. Our first persona is a well-prepared mom, the second is Aunt Babi, the lovely midwife.

The third one is Panna, who is a 22-year-old college student whose pregnancy had not been planned beforehand. We were focusing on Panna as she is in the most critical position and needs the most help.
Our team designed a pregnancy management application, which is based on a timeline. It allows prospective mommies to simply pervade the whole process of their pregnancy.
We've made a lot of usability tests to improve design to the last stage of the information architecture / wireframe screenflow below.
At this state of the designing process, we brought back our second persona Aunt Babi. She was based on one of our interview subjects, a midwife, who impressed us with her caring attitude. In order to reduce stress we decided to engage emotion design within the application. So Aunt Babi became a supporting guide, who is always ready to help you out with some hints.
We put our main focus around stress relief. On the timeline you can not only personalize the states of your journey, but you can find out more information about the important milestones, the medical examinations. The premade journey was based on the knowledge gathered from our interviews. You can store three different type of data each day:
At the daily launch, you can express your current mood, which is connected with carefully picked colors. With this method, the past days are filled with various color gradients. This separates the days behind you from the upcoming ones.
