MICA Competitive Scholarship 2017 - 2018

"Future Never Had" is a sculpture series that portrays my regret of leaving music study in my childhood. Since I did not keep up with practicing music, I know that my future may not be as musician. I designed sculptures that are reminiscent of musical instruments. Since I have more experience in visual art than music, my own form of music is to sculpt my own musical instrument, rather than playing a pre-exisiting one.

"Convello" is the cello counterpart of "Convlin." The four major thread bodies converge into one arc on the top part of the sculpture, which demonstrates how my diverse background in visual art allows me to create multidisciplinary pieces.

Violin is one of the instruments that I quit. Most violins are crafted in a straight line orientation. However, "Convlin" is made out of mulitple cotton threads converging into a point and spreading out on the other side of the wooden loom. Even though I did not keep up with a steady habit of playing violin, my experiences from various fields may give me an opportunity to construct a diverse body of work.
