The Cloud Dream of The Nine" was written by Kim Man-jung who lived from 1637 to 1692, in the late of Chosun Dinasty.
The heroin main charactor is Song-jin who was originally a disciple of Master Priest, but the young priest is tormented by visions of the eight fairy maidens. Song-jin and 8 maidens are sent to the world of the living by punishment and they are reborn there. His name is Yang Soyu.
Each fairy maiden having an affinity with Song-jin is destined to serve him as wife or mistress. Yang Soyu becomes a prime minister and a son-in-law of the king. He marries with two princesses and has six secondary wives and they live in luxury.
Slowly his spirit withdraws from earthly delights.Song-jin realizes that the accomplishment of secular desire is meaningless. Eventually, Song-jin and 8 maidens realize the transience of life. Song-jin becomes chief of the disciples on that height and teaches the way of the Buddha, and the eight fairies, as priestesses, serve him as their master.
And at last, having learned from the wisdom of the Buddha, they all reach the bliss of Nirvana.
