We as human beings all experience emotions throughout our lives. Each one of us at some point experience love, loss, and pain. No matter how different we are from one another we can always find each other in our emotions, in our inner-selves: the one we don’t let the rest of the world see. One of my favorite authors John Green say it perfectly when he writes: “When did we see each other face-to-face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that, we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks, the light can get in. The light can get out.” For my pieces, I wanted to explore this idea of letting what’s inside of you, come out. The pouring out of liquid from a body part like an lips displays raw emotion to convey this feeling. Each series of prints contains a theme within; the lips are the story of love. Their stories are told from the poems that are embedded in the images. For me, poets connect us all closer to our inner-self and each other through their stories.
