To Kill a Mockingbird book cover design

Book cover design
I designed a brand new Book cover and blurb for the book to kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee.
I created a variety of book covers in both traditional and digital ways the main theme I wanted to explore was the loss of innocence while also hinting at how the story unfolds and cuts into the lives of the characters.
When making my some of my traditional book covers I used a photocopy of a page of the book and cut out a bird shape. I used red ink to create the blood splatter effect that can be seen on some of the covers. For one of my covers I dropped red ink into milk to create an impact style effect. I added the text onto all my covers in photoshop I experimented with a few different fonts.
The back cover I created. The red eye of the mockingbird is a recurring them on my cover. I chose to have it zoomed in to give it an under the microscope effect making the viewer have to find the bigger picture.
my final piece. To create this book cover I photocopied a section of the book and then traced a mockingbird silhouette into it and then cut it out. I then placed paper underneath and made the blood spatter eye using red ink and using a light box as assistive lighting I took pictures of it. The blur effect is natural from the camera. I then added the text in Photoshop. I chose this text for my final piece from when I created a purely digital cover that was just white and red and I needed the text to be the main focus, this text best suited the book as it held relevance to the 1933 style of decorative print.
