Persephone
Bag 'Persephone' and bracelet 'Pomegranate' in vegetable tanned leather.
The bag is dyed black with an iron solution and lined with a silver/grey polyester fabric, visible through the holes in the leather. It has a shoulder strap of thin leather cord.
The bracelet has the leather's natural pale colour on the outside but is dyed red on the inside, which is slightly visible through the cut-out holes. I chose to reverse the colouring of a pomegranate because it is more interesting and less obvious what the inspiration was.
The inspiration for the accessories was pomegranates and the myth of how the Greek goddess of spring, Persephone, acquired her place in the underworld because of one.
This being my second project in leather, I also wanted to explore possibilities with the material.
