The idea of Knot Art was passed on to me by my father, Charlie Hastings. Knot Art is created by the process of splitting and book matching an interesting board with knots and grain patterns to create a symmetrical design. Like a Rorschach test, people see many different things in the wood, so the image is best left up to the individuals interpretation and imagination. Every piece of wood that is split has a one of a kind design. So to find a piece with the right knots and grain to make designs with such a likeness to faces and animals is very exciting.
I work with a large variety of woods and do my best to showcase the natural beauty of these woods by not using any stain, and by protecting each piece using a high quality lacquer. I hope you enjoy my work.
