For my senior thesis I focused on creating something that was for girls in Middle School who were starting their periods for the first time. I wanted this time to be a little less scary and I wanted the girls to feel like they were more prepared, and therefore confident. Many girls are left unprepared at school, and I wanted to make something that would fix this problem.

I created a handmade script for my logo with a handmade circle home that also is a period shape. I wanted it to feel individual, unique, flowy, friendly and not sharp.

I created the Flo Bag, a complementary bag, sponsored by the school, that the girls could pick-up from the nurses office or counselors room that has 3 pads, 3 tampons, 2 chocolates and a first-time user guide in it. There would be one for each girl and they could pick theirs up whenever they needed it, whether they wanted to be pre-prepared and keep it in their locker or for if they start their period at school and are not prepared. I wanted to make it really attractive to these Middle School girls, I wanted it to look like a pretty goody bag, and not like something scary or daunting.

The goal of the pamphlet is to educate girls that know little to nothing about their periods about their bodies and menstruation. I needed to deliver the information in a friendly-loving-approachable manner.

I decided to place large amounts of information inside the girls bathroom stalls where they will be sitting, possibly trying to waste time away from class. Here they can sit with no one watching or knowing that they are absorbing fabulous amounts of information about their cycle and which menstrual products might be best for them.

I created 2 shorts gifs that someone could send to a girl who has just started her period. They are cute, short, and private. Something that would make the girls feel loved and supported and something that meets them at their level. Gifs are an easy way to talk about things and express emotions without having to find the proper words or tone over a digital device.
