Design is a way to provide a solution, a way to make things simple.

The easiness of a design comes from the complexity that went into creating it. It also reflects how good the design is. A good design not only addresses the problem, but also provides a sustainable solution with minimal conditions.

That is where the challenge of a designer lies.

This project is an attempt to use bad design as a tool to understand what goes into making a good design.

The term bad design seems very simple and raw, but the complexity lies in how it is used. The idea is to question one aspect of design and its importance, by trying to create a product that can still be considered a good design in terms of other aspects. This pushes the designer to work on the remaining elements of the design to ensure that the flaw goes unnoticed, and also invokes the purpose and the value of the design element in question.

It gives the designer a chance to explore the freedom that was restricted by the need to adhere to certain implicit principles. It opens up the chance to reconsider, and maybe even revaluate them. 

Product chosen: paint brush

The intention of the product is to make it easier to maintain and use a paintbrush.Normally a rag cloth is always required while painting in order to constantly clean the brush before taking a new colour to paint with.

The idea of this product is to make that task easier and more efficient in terms of ease of use, as the need for an external cloth is being eliminated.

Taking The Concept of Bad Design Into Consideration(obtrusivity /sensoriality) :

The element of touch is being eliminated from its utility and hence making the process less efficient (in terms of cleaning the brush). This becomes an inconvenience for the user as the tool used to clean the brush is becoming an obstruction. 

The focus was on understanding the current usage of a brush. From the different purposes it is used for to the way it is held while using it.

There are multiple ways of holding a brush while using it and hence the grip that the brush provides is very important.
