Two years ago, we embarked on a collaborative journey into their rebranding and reformulation efforts that went deep into understanding the production process of each product, ensuring their values of sustainability were embedded in every aspect, as well as studying their new formulations' use of quality, natural sources inspired by Asian wisdom.
We started by working with them to reduce the number of collections, then categorise them based on usage, series and benefit to better reflect the new formulations. This new structure also forms the foundation in which new products are developed.
The new look features signature bottles with a distinct asymmetrical silhouette inspired by the graceful curves of the Banyan Tree logo. They come in three sizes and look great both on its own or as a set, resembling a family of trees.
Parts of the bottles are embossed with the symbolic hanging roots of the first Banyan Tree in their first flagship hotel — Banyan Tree Phuket.
Set in the elegant Christiana typeface for its varied stroke weights and hand-lettered impression, the label design was carefully engineered to fit every perceivable proportion in Banyan Tree’s wide offering. The collection name is printed in gold, and the background spot a faint, subtle wood-texture.
Banyan Tree is well-known for their ethos on sustainability. In this exercise, all the gift packaging are replaced with sustainable materials — Fabric wraps woven from used plastic bottles, and gift boxes handmade in mulberry papers.
The graphic motifs and style advisories developed in this exercise were further applied across their extensive product range from packaging to accessories by the Banyan Tree in-house design team with immaculate care.
