stArt award - Greek Heroes

This year I’ve participated in the stArt award 2018
by Boekie Boekie with the theme:
Even though I didn’t make it to the nominations, I’m happy with my illustration entries and what’s more important I really enjoyed the making process. All stories and texts are designed for children, and were prepared by the organizers of the competition. The challenge for participants was to make illustrations for the prepared layouts, as well as hand write the headers for the stories. The organizers decided to complicate the tasks for the participants and offered a limited color range - I've decided to use  the classical black/orange greek vases paintings colour as base, and the famous “Santorini blue” as additional colour.

BOOK COVER

The theme of the book cover illustration is based on 12 olympian Gods looking on humans down from the height of the Olympus mountain.

SIREN SONG

🎵🎶 Yoohoo 🎶🎵
in Greek mythology, the Sirens were dangerous creatures, who lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island. Sirens were believed to combine women and birds in various ways.

CLASH OF THE TITANS

The story from the time, when the twelve Olypmian Gods couldn't decide where their main palace should be.

THE GREEK ABG

Illustrations in this story were based on the shapes of the letters from the greek alphabet.

ILLUSTRATIONS OF A GREEK MYTHS BY OWN CHOICE

Daedalus & Icarus

Hey Icarus!! Watch your butt...ehm...I mean wings...
In Greek mythology, Icarus is the son of the master craftsman Daedalus.... Everybody knows how the story goes and ends...so for my illustration I’ve decided to capture the exact moment when Icarus knew, that he screwed up...

Poseidon

Poseidon “The Earth-shaker”, he was moody by nature and easily offended: his temperament was unstable (at best), and his emotional fluctuations often resulted in major catastrophic events, such as floods, earthquakes and sea storms, and sometimes, he even unleashed his sea monsters in order to get even.
