This is Poquessing Creek in Philadelphia PA, which runs into the Delaware River. This wooded area is so beautiful and peaceful, but it is being contaminated with trash. I have seen foxes, turtles, deers and many more animals that live in this area.
This tire that has been there so long that it is buried and almost impossible to get out. This is a great example as to how far we have neglected this area.
This piece of metal up against the rock really concerned me because I have seen turtles in this are and they can get seriously hurt. The rock in this photo is man made and doesn't belong in the water.
This photo is a spot where kids must hang out and leave their trash behind. You can see bottles, paper and much more.
In this photo to the left you can see plastic bags. Plastic is the most dangerous to animals and there is so much of it here.
In the center of this photo you can see a bunch of cans. These cans can end up in the water.
This plastic bottle is one out of hundreds I found in one day. If I were to spend more time here I could find up to thousands.
This photo shows pieces of broken glass. This is a huge area where its very dangerous to walk.
This is a close-up shot of a book and other pieces of trash. There are cups, bottles all over this area.
In the summer months this is a beautiful place and can be a safe place for animals to live. It can also be a place for us to enjoy as well but we need to be mindful of the trash we leave behind. My family spends hours cleaning this area every summer but it's a lot of work. I will continue to do my part no matter how small.
