The objective with this project was to modernize a popular novel. I chose, To Kill A Mockingbird, because I felt it had a lot of potential to be upgraded. I kept the design simple by including a sans typeface and filling all the negative space in the letters. Overall I felt the project came out well and fulfilled the modernization goal.
The half title page. I kept the modern design fluent in this page by filling all negative space in the letters. I also chose to integrate the word, "kill" into the O of "TO" to act as the negative space for the O, but also read in correct order.
Table of Contents page. I chose to add the modern style to the heading and sub headings on the page, but decided to leave the meat of the page alone. I did this simply out of readability, so that the reader could easily see the chapters & page numbers.
This is an example of beginning a chapter in this book. The chapter numbers are enlarged to "fit" with the style I was trying to portray in this project. The text on the rest of the page is also set to a nice, defined sans typeface to look more modern.
