Portrait of Stephanie, 2018

In the process of this portrait, I want to capture the child’s innocence while the unawareness of the future. Using techniques like those of old masters such as Dutch and Italian painters - Rembrandt and Caravaggio, the painting will resemble a baroque painting. As many of these paintings not only depicted portraits of people of high importance but also added depth and composition. Creating space and composition using light and darkness as in the case of Caravaggio’s painting, and placed importance to detail and texture as to not capture realism but rather truth and emphasis to the subject’s clothing and physical attributes. “Portrait of Stephanie” is a portrait that wants to capture just that, the comfort of an oversized sweater on a growing child as she sits looking forward with her innocence to an unknown future.
