Spare Time Lanes Logo & Branding Guide

For this project I was instructed to re-design a logo of a local business that wasn't particularly strong or needed improvement. I chose Spare Time Lanes; a bowling alley whose original logo was so poorly made I didn't want to show here for fear that it might be mistaken for my work.
I've always been a fan of the look and style of 50's and 60's bowling alley architecture and signage. So naturally when I saw the chance to re-design this logo I wanted to emulate some of the characteristics of that retro futuristic style.
Bowling alley construction and signage of the 1930s through the early 1960s represented some of the most elegant and exuberant design in American history. Heavily
influenced by car culture and futuristic space age design, Mid-Century Modern and Googie architecture of the 50s and 60s is uniquely and extraordinarily American. Boomerangs, starbursts, bright colors, flashing neon, and cosmic arrows pointing the way came together to catch the eyes and attentions of on lookers. This logo is intended to capture and emulate this unique and iconic style that enveloped the culture of the golden age of bowling. Below is the branding guide I designed to accompany and reinforce proper logo usage for Spare Time Lanes.
For the color palette of my logo I went for something that would again be a good representation of that time period and spent a little time researching color schemes popular with automotive and architectural influences of the day.
