Abstract Pop-Up: Panic

Abstract Pop-Up: Panic
The goal of this project was to create a pop-up book which communicated panic using only shape and color. Through this project I explored paper craft and became comfortable creating pop ups. I enjoyed the movement and dimensionality that pop-up brings to paper design.

My concept was to create a pop-up which expressed panic. My inspiration came from the phrase "my heart beat out of my chest". The white shape is an abstraction of the rib cage and the red shapes are derived from the iconic heart shape. I used sharp angles, strong contrast, and crowded shapes to communicate the urgency and confusion of panic.
