"Gloomy Girls" is an illustration series of acrylic paintings which explores the concept of melancholia in a slightly humorous, can't-stop-listening-to-your-favorite-sad-pop-song kind of way.  Depressed females sit gloomily over unanswered texts, missed connections, and bad breakups, alongside wilted flowers, unwatered houseplants, and bouquets bound for the rubbish bin.  Painted in electric bright hues, the series juxtaposes pop colours with sad subjects, playing with the idea of the pity party as a somewhat self-indulgent defeat; and in a way, funny.  Maybe things aren't that bad after all.
