Erythrophobia

2017

A short experimental dance film about Erythrophobia - [ih-rith-ruh-foh-bee-uh] noun: an abnormal fear of the colour red.
The aim of the film is to encapsulate the emotions, experiences and struggles which a person suffering from Erythrophobia may face by exploring the relationship between the colour and the person; the phobia and the phobic. The abstract narrative of the film is based on the psychiatric method of curing the fear, in which the sufferer has to fully immerse themselves in the colour and embrace it in order for the fear to disappear.

This project was created in collaboration with Madison Pomarico - a choreographer from London Contemporary Dance School, the final outcome of which had to be under 3 minutes. Through developing the project, choreography and cinematography came hand-in-hand, as we worked together to develop ideas and movements which would communicate our concept on screen, which was an educational and insighful process for both parties. During rehearsals and test-shoots, we tailored and chiselled our idea to the medium of dance, whilst taking into consideration what both the costumes and the location could bring to the film.

Premiered at The Place Theatre in London, December 2017.

Film production: Liza Gusarova and Vera Romanova
