We were tasked to assist entrepreneurs and businesses to maximise their growth potential, and to change the paradigm of customer interaction. Customer view is an online platform that gives local merchants better insight into customer behaviour. A dashboard provides merchants with aggregated data insights to understand the demographics of the Standard Bank customer base in their trading area, including age, gender, income, spending patterns; behavioural and purchase choices. Merchants can use CustomerView data to identify a particular market segment that they would like to target.

THE CHALLENGE:
This was a challenging project because of the amount of data involved, and the widely varied merchant requirements and value propositions. It was my very first projects after I joined the Bank. We were a small team of only 2 designers, with a very tight deadline and large MVP scope. The Bank had no solid styleguide and colour theory in place. The project had to scale once the the style guide and colour theory was more solid.
MY ROLE:
I was the assigned Senior UI designer on the project and also assisted with the discovery and ideation phase.
HOW I SOLVED IT:
We approached the design on a component level, so that once the Bank stylguide was completed these components could be slotted in any new framework.
WHAT I LEARNED:
Graphs and data are not easy as pie ;) I learned how to work within the constraints of D3.js charts a JavaScript graph library.
