Susana Vieira's profile

academic works | drawing I and II

Quick drawings concentrate an amount of tension in search of something, acting also as a ”dialectic between intuition and rigorous investigation, in a gradual process of understanding and visualization". Álvaro Siza Vieira
"An artistic support related to the production of two-dimensional works, differing from painting and illustration or engraving ... It is seen as a process and as an artistic result ... It manifests substantially as a two-dimensional component formed by lines, dots and shapes." These disciplines were developed during the 1st and 2nd years of Architecture course. Over this time I experienced various forms of drawing, various supports and varied materials. I drew in the outside and inside, architectural drawings, nature, forms, human body, objects ... Experimenting various techniques appropriate to each drawing.

These courses promote the representation and knowledge of the visible world and of mental images through manual graphic record. Its objectives are the development of observational skills, of ability and knowledge of the act of drawing and of sensibility to plastic and aesthetic values. It aims also to the create conditions to address the act of designing with agility, spontaneity and consciousness; to stimulate unsystematic, symbolic and poetic components attendance in the projective act; to promote the understanding and satisfaction of necessity and pleasure of representation, of number and measure expression and of outer and inner visual reality memory; to the recognition that drawing is the graphic expression of an intentionality that must seek for its matrix in outer reality and on design and architecture heritage. One learns to draw, drawing and drawing up; the drawing intentionality is also on the matrix that is the author.
