Shy-Shy Venus

Shy-Shy Venus
Interactive Painting
In the renaissance period, paintings of naked women are commonly found in high-class households. As it is a form of pornography for them in that era, men would only admire these paintings of naked women from a distance. This idea of appreciating beauty from afar stems from that similar concept. This interactive painting also addresses the issue regarding how Asians view nudity in art as they have a reputation for being conservative.

As you approach the monitor, the animation slowly fades to black. It represents how Asians still retains a certain level of conservative mindset when it comes to the subject of nudity in art. It embodies Venus’ flawless body as she hides away from the vision of the public. However, if you were to physically cover your face and move towards the animation, it remains in view as it mimics the behaviour behind how the public shuns from nudity in art as a sensitive topic.
